Oscar Recap

As clearly fashion-loving girls, the Oscars are one of our favorite events here at All Worn Out. The award show itself may not be that interesting (see last year with Anne Hathaway and James Franco), but the red carpet sure is. Although it's hard having a true FASHION moment between the sea of cream colored sparkly gowns, here are a few of our favorite looks from Sunday night:

Allie- Jessica Chastain was far and away my favorite of the night. Usually I'm more of a Rooney Mara girl, but Jessica just looked so beautiful in her (modified) Alexander McQueen dress from resort 2012. Like a renaissance goddess or something. Actually straight out of Birth of Venus or Titian. So romantic and pretty, but not overly frothy. Perfection!

Caroline - Emma has been getting a lot of grief for her Giambattista Vali gown. And while many people have been arguing with me about it, I still stand by my vote for Emma Stone for best dressed. Not many redheads can pull off a bright-red gown AND a huge bow necktie. And still be hilarious. Although the look may remind you of Nicole Kidman at the 2007 Oscars, Emma Stone managed to keep it young, fresh, and polished.

Miriam - Like Caroline, most of my friends disagree with my best dressed choice: Gwyneth Paltrow. However, I maintain she looks stunning in her white Tom Ford gown. I also had no issue with the cape, in fact that's part of what made her look so awesome. Most people I talked to didn't exactly dig her hair, but I loved the sleek ponytail; it perfectly accented her dress. Besides, people are often accused of too prom or too out there, and I think she got this balance right. And at least she didn't play it safe. (a close second for me, Octavia Spencer.)

Steph- I'll be real, all of my favorite looks from the red carpet have been picked by my fellow bloggers. Therefore, I will take it upon myself to bring some menswear into the mix with my pick for best dressed man. And the award goes to...Tom Hanks! As the first presenter of the night, he set the bar pretty high in a double breasted Tom Ford tux. I saw him, and tweeted, "Hold up, Tom Hanks is looking good tonight." No, I don't have a thing for old men, but come on, a double-breasted tux with that sweet over-sized bow tie?! It's obviously not something everyone could pull off, but it worked with his older-gentlemen, I-have-gray-hair-and-I-am-mature-look. Like I said, he looked good.

Eighteen.

You'll almost always find me in dark skinny jeans, with a loose hanging top tucked in, and leather or combat boots.

I'm honestly not as much of a blog stalker as my fellow bloggers, but my favorite are also man repeller, jak& jil, and who what wear.

Style icons?
Alexa Chung--she's polished with a sort of urban edge, Rachel Bilson (literally I've never seen her not look good), the Olsen twins--more bohemian than my style, but to me they epitomize "cool," Kate Moss....and I love Brad Goreski. I'm also in love with Karlie Kloss and Lindsey Wixson, though not so much because they're my style icons..more because I'm just obsessed with them.

Something you can't live without?
Coke (not diet.) coffee. Nivea chapstick. A solid amount of Chelsea Lately episodes on my DVR.

Favorite item in your closet?
hm...that's hard. My sequin French Connection dress, my Ray Ban clubmasters, and probably just my assortment of American Apparel tees and crop tops because they're easy.

Dream job?
This changes all the time. I really want to open my own school or travel company. I'd also love to be a screen writer or writer for a fashion magazine.

What's in your bag?
Don't really have a bag...should probably get on that.

English

Kelly Framel from The Glamorai, the Olsens (not just the twins!) Olivia Palermo (always polished), Whitney Port, Caroline Sieber (I think it’s the name), and Audrey Hepburn.
P.S. I’m still not over Zoe Saldana at the 2010 Oscars.

Sweaters, nail polish, and fashion magazines. And, of course, my friends and family (d'aww....)

Style Profile: Allie

What’s your name?
Allie Tallering

How old are you?

18

What’s your uniform?

J Brand colored skinnies, a button down with rolled up sleeves (usually equipment), my fiorentini and baker black ankle boots, and pearl drop earrings i inherited from my mom. It's preppy with a little edge, easy, and always looks right. And while I'm no Elisa Nalin, I do love me some casual color blocking.
A little variation on my uniform (also rocking the top knot)

Favorite designers?
Givenchy when I'm looking for inspiration and AMAZING details, Proenza Schouler for accessories, and Jenni Kayne, Jil Sander, Rag and Bone, and Celine for everything else. I die over their sporty, clean aesthetic. In my life, I don't really look for anything too crazy or patterned, save for the metallic velvet wrap dress or neon orange flared jeans that also find a home in my closet.

Favorite stores?
Madewell, Barneys, Bop (and Shopbop). I would almost consider myself in the professional shopping pantheon given the amount I online shop, but it's a little (a lot) embarrassing.

Favorite blogs? Man Repeller (all time favorite), The Coveteur, Garance, Jak & Jill (for street style), ChiCityFashion
The actual Man Repeller (via the cut)

Style icons? Liv Tyler (I'd like to say I look like her too... or at least i hope), Katherine Hepburn, Lauren Hutton, Jenna Lyons, Man Repeller. I love the sporty, preppy menswear inspired look with a little twist (usually of something neon). Man Repeller comes a little out of left field, but I'm obsessed with her and the way she can rock a crazy amount of layers and trends without looking insane. She is awesome.
Jenna Lyons (via the cut)
Caroline and I as Man Repeller

Somethings you can’t live without?
Peppermint orbit, Diet Coke, my dog, kiehls lip balm in a tub
The ADORABLE love of my life, Tucker

Favorite item in your closet?
A two way tie between my bright green mulberry mini-alexa and my leopard hugh hefner loafers. They both just make me so happy! Leave it up to a bright green mini bag to brighten my day every day.

Dream job?

Working in the finance side of the fashion industry (CEO of proenza, backer, venture capitalist, investor, the like), or the president

What’s in your bag?
My everyday purse is another one of my most cherished pieces in my closet, the AMAZING navy PS.1. I carry it around everywhere. Legit everywhere. Right now, I have a bunch of random junk, plus all of the stuff below, which I carry every day. A lot of it is mentioned in the stuff I can't live without too.
From L to R: My headphones, Fresh Sugar Rose chapstick, Kiehls chapstick, Nars lipstick in Carthage, a bangle from Madewell, a leftover train ticket from when I was in Madrid over winter break that I forgot to throw away, my book, sunglasses, my inhaler (hahah, but I actually have to carry it everywhere), my wallet (currently carrying a Marc by Marc one), and new Fresh lemon-y perfume that I'm obsessed with.
Well, that's all from Alpal today, but if you're looking for more all worn out, check our twitter feed at @all_worn_out. While you're there, follow us too. You da bomb!

Style Profile: Steph G.

We thought it was time for you all to meet the ladies behind this wonderful blog. First up: Steph G.

What's your name?
Full name? Stephanie Alicia Greene. But, on the streets, I go by Stephie G. or Steph G.

How old are you?
16. I'm a youngin'.

What's your uniform?
On almost any given day, I will have on a button down shirt- whether it be under a crewneck sweater, hoodie, or jean jacket, it's almost always there. That, with a pair of dark wash jeans with the hems rolled up just above my ankles. It's such a clean look. However, the cleanliness of the look has a tendency to stop at the hem of my jeans- well loved shoes are my kryptonite, especially in the summer. I usually clean it up a bit as the temperature starts to drop because boots are a lot more difficult to mess up than canvas sneakers.

Who are your favorite designers?
I just really got into the runway side of fashion last year, I would always just wait to see what was in the magazines. Now, I rush onto New Mag's website during fashion week and straight up spend hours looking at pics from the shows. I also have to be honest, menswear is what I really love. I always think men's fashion weeks are so much better than women's.....but, that is a story for another time. These are my favorite women's wear designers: Prabal Gurung3.1 Phillip LimJason WuAlexander WangPeter Som (trend?...), Alice + OliviaProenza Schouler, Band of Outsiders, and of course, Marc Jacobs.

What are your favorite stores?
American Apparel, Gap, J.Crew, and Banana Republic are the stores where I consistently shop. And then, I just have a lot of Ralph Lauren button downs.

What are your favorite blogs?
Fashion blogs are my favorite distraction from schoolwork. My daily reads are The Midwestyle, Unabashedly Prep, Isaac Likes, NOVH, Chicago Street Style, Jak and Jil, and Eat.Sleep.Wear. Mostly menswear blogs; I get most of my inspiration for my favorite menswear bloggers. I probably have forty or so blogs bookmarked, but I only look at the others when I don't have school for a week or two.

Who are your style icons?
This is a tough one...I pull inspiration from so many people that it's hard for me to pinpoint a few people. However, my favorite bloggers are my biggest inspiration. So, the people that run the blogs I just mentioned, would probably be on this list. Along with Kanye West.

Something you can't live without?
Chapstick and writing.

Favorite item in your closet?
Closet? Denim jacket, I got for $12.97 at Gap. Nightstand? Timex Weekender.

Dream job?
Editor of GQ, Esquire, or some other amazing menswear magazine, creative director at some yet-to-be-determined label, or professional blogger. Something that combines writing and fashion. I also want to teach high school English at some point.

What's your favorite class?
All-time? American Lit. This year? A tie between AP Lang and AP Gov.
